How do you know Jordanna? Yoga

Which of her classes do you go to and how long have you been going to her classes?

I go to Jordanna’s 7am sessions Monday to Friday , Tuesday evenings at Chedburgh and Wednesday mornings at Risby .

Introduction:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into yoga?

I was brought up in Leamington Spa/Warwick in the Midlands then spent a few years in London and St Albans until settling in Cambridge for 40 years and raising a family before moving to Bury St Edmunds three and a half years ago. Two children a boy and a girl and two grandchildren.

Yoga Journey:

What motivated you to start practicing yoga?

I began practicing yoga in my 20’s and have been attending classes on and off since then depending upon whether or not I could find the right teacher for me.

How has yoga positively impacted your life?

Like most of us there have been many stressful and difficult times along the way and Yoga has always provided that calming influence and focus.

Favourite Yoga Pose:

I love Salute to the Sun as I find it to be a joyful and uplifting sequence as well as a great discipline.

Least Favourite Yoga Pose:

Reclining Pigeon because I find it so uncomfortable, probably because I have short arms!

Off the Mat:

Aside from yoga, what are your other interests or hobbies?

I love to cook for ‘get togethers’, family or otherwise.   I also enjoy quilting and applique which brings me into the company of some very lovely ladies.

How do you balance your yoga practice with other aspects of your life?

Sometimes it’s very difficult as life gets in the way and like most of us, we don’t always put our own needs first. However, I am getting much better at it since joining Jordanna’s community .

Mind-Body Connection:

How does yoga influence your mental and emotional well-being?

I use yoga regularly to calm myself when my mind and body just wants to ‘react’ to a situation.

Have you noticed any changes in your mindset since starting yoga?

Yes, I am much calmer and more accepting of what life brings, good or otherwise.

Community Involvement:

How did you become a part of this yoga community?

After coming to Bury St Edmunds three and a half years ago I wanted to get back to Yoga which I hadn’t practiced for a few years so I searched for yoga classes online which were held in village halls where there is, as a rule, always parking.  I found Jordanna’s class in Risby and have never looked back.

Are there any community events or activities that you particularly enjoy?

All of it. Workshops, one-day retreats, outdoor yoga, hosting coffee and cake after class sometimes on a Wednesday.

Wellness Practices:

Do you have any other wellness practices that complement your yoga routine?

I like to meditate, though I find it difficult to get all those chattering monkeys out of my head. Though on occasion, when I have managed to ‘be in the moment ‘, I have felt a great sense of peace. How do you maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle?

I am a great believer in cooking from scratch whenever possible and do not consume highly processed foods.  I eat a wide variety of  vegetables, fruit, grains, herbs and spices and walk our dog most days and try very hard at not getting stressed.  Easier said than done 😊

Personal Growth:

Can you share a specific instance where yoga played a role in your personal growth?

Yes, since I have joined Jordanna’s classes I have become, for the most part, much calmer and accepting of myself and others.

Favourite Quotes or Mantras:

Do you have any favourite yoga-related quotes or mantras that inspire you?

There are many, but I really like this one…

“Yoga takes you into the present moment. The only place where life exists.” I have no idea who said it.

Advice for Others:

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting their yoga journey?

Persevere, don’t expect to reach the end of the journey when it comes to yoga, it’s infinite. But there are stops along the way worth travelling to.

How do you stay motivated to continue your yoga practice?

It’s my time and time for me

Community Connection:

How do you connect with others in the yoga community?

Through humour and socialising where you get to know your fellow class mates.

Are there any yoga-related events or workshops that you recommend to fellow practitioners?

Everything, there is something for everyone.  Though I might give the ‘wild swimming’ a miss.

Future Goals:

Do you have any specific goals or aspirations related to your yoga practice?

Keep going, keep learning .

Just to enjoy my yoga and keep doing my best and not worry being ‘good enough’.

How do you see your yoga journey evolving in the future?

Working towards  wisdom  and loving myself, through yoga practice
